The Bromsgrove International Musicians Competition

The Bromsgrove International Musicians Competition was founded originally as a platform for young talented musicians by Mary White in 1980 on the advice of Dr Donald Hunt, then Artistic Director of the Bromsgrove Festival. Since that time many outstanding and talented young musicians have taken part. Many of the winners and finalists have gone on to enjoy national and international fame. The Competition is run by a trust, the Bromsgrove International Musicians Competition, which is a registered charity no. 1155544. The 2017 Competition will be open to instrumentalists and pianists of all nationalities aged 18 to 25 (28 for singers). The prizes for 2017 will be as follows:

  • First Prize – £6,000 plus opportunities to perform at the Three Choirs Festival, at Bromsgrove Concerts and at the Birmingham Conservatoire. The first prize is generously donated by the Helen Rachael Mackaness Trust
  • Two other Finalists’ Prizes of £3,000 each
  • Sir John Manduell Prize – £1,000, awarded for the best performance in the Preliminary Round of a piece of music which was composed after 1950 lasting no more than 7 minutes.
  • Accompanist/Collaborative Pianist Prize – £500, awarded at the end of the first round. All accompanists aged 25 or under will be automatically eligible, except those provided by the Competition.
  • The Adjudicators also have discretion to award a Highly Commended Prize when appropriate to a semi-finalist who is not selected for the Finalists’ Concert

The 2017 Competition will be held at Bromsgrove School’s Routh Hall from Tuesday 4th April to Saturday 8th April 2017. The first Preliminary Round will be followed by the Semi-Final beginning on Thursday afternoon 6th April and continuing on Friday 7th April. The Finalists’ Concert will take place on Saturday 8th April at 7:00pm.
